Antiquaries’ Walk in St James’s

Antiquaries’ Walk in St James’s.

Meet outside the Society of Antiquaries, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1.

Wednesday 1st May at 2.15pm.

This is a walk for the antiquarian-minded, to look at places, buildings and sculpture with an antiquarian theme around St James's.  Our walk will start outside the Society of Antiquaries, the oldest learned society in the UK dedicated to the material past, and will finish on the site of Carlton House, once home to extravagant collections of art and antiquities.

In between, we may see the font where William Blake was baptised, the only London square designed by a poet, the grand house where the world's oldest club of book collectors was founded and the location of the shop of a man buried in his library bookshelves.  The walk takes just over an hour and finishes near to Trafalgar Square.
