A Pair of Ormolu and Silvered Bronze Gueridons in the manner of Bernard Molitor.

Constructed in breccia marble, mahogany, and steel with gilt bronze mounts; the top tier of circular form supported on cluster legs wrapped in ormolu floral garlands. The columns joined by a concave-shaped lower tier of mahogany supported by flared hoof feet.
French, circa 1880

The distinctive design of the garlands draped around the legs was first pioneered by the celebrated cabinetmaker Bernard Molitor (1755-1833), who ran his successful business from the end of the Louis XVI era to the beginnings of post-revolutionary France. He supplied some of his early work for Marie Antoinette, and later worked for Napoleon Bonaparte.
