19th Century Walnut Nutcracker.

A well carved screw type walnut nutcracker, having a tapered octagonal handle. The top comprises of a clenched fist with the hand holding a carved dipper, with the opposite side open to receive the nut. The whole has an excellent colour and patination.

An almost identical one is illustrated in the Art and Character of Nutcrackers by Arlene and George Wagner on page 72 and in the sale of the Shepherd Collection in November 1983 at Sotheby's Lot 650.
