Mahogany Circular Convex Mirrors.

A Very Good Quality And Rarely Found Pair Of Mid 19th Century Circular Mirrors, Unusually Having Attractive Mahogany Frames With Elegant Reeded Decoration, Enclosing Original Convex Mirror Plates.

The original purpose of convex mirrors was to reflect and spread the light source into as many parts of a room as possible and this in turn can often make a room feel significantly bigger. They come in all shapes, sizes, designs and styles and there is often huge variation in both the overall quality and elegance of them. As a general rule the earlier the date of their construction the better although there are of course always exceptions to the rules.

With regards to this lovely little pair of mirrors its worth noting that it is relatively unusual to find a pair of this age still together and also that they are particularly unusual with the relatively plain, but elegant, mahogany frames. As you are probably aware it is much more common to find heavily embellished giltwood frames, often with heavily carved surmounts.

These are the polar opposite of most convex mirrors, simple, understated and elegant, the perfect lift to plain wall in just about any room, without taking over and dominating. As a result we think they would actually work just as well in a contemporary room setting as they would in a formal antique room setting. In combination with their relatively small size this opens up the possibility of using them in more environments than one can even begin to imagine.

As with all items which we offer for sale they have been inspected at our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure that they are ready to be placed straight on the wall in a home or office environment immediately following purchase.
