A fascinating antique Japanese Bronze clock depicting a troop of monkeys (Circa 1880).
From our collection of antique Japanese metalware, this fascinating Meiji-era (1868-1912) large, Bronze clock in the form of a troop of playful monkeys clambering around a Persimmon tree.
The body of the clock is moulded in the form of the tree with the clock-face in the centre. The monkeys depicted are a large family group of Japanese macaques. They are picking and sharing fruit from the tree amongst themselves.
The faces and hands of the Monkeys are picked out in a rich reddish copper and the clock face is enamel and displays Japanese numbers.
The clock has been converted at some point to run on electricity. It features a UK plug but has not been PAT tested. Contact us for more information, additional images or to arrange a viewing.
