A Chippendale Period Side Chair.
England, circa 1765.
A fine and rare George III mahogany "Chippendale Director period" side chair, showing superb quality carving throughout. The carved splat back is very closely related to Plate IX of Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director. With silk upholstered drop in seat, the front cabriole legs with finely acanthus carved detail and ending in bold scroll toes. Good colour and patina throughout.
