Chinese Watercolour of a Sampan of Large Size on European Paper.
China Trade.
1790-1800.
Paper.
The large Chinese watercolour on European paper depicts a starboard view of a two-masted sailing ship with one man sailing the vessel while two passengers can clearly be seen inside through the open window.
Another vessel can be seen in the middle ground progressing down another water channel. The light orange-red tinge of sundown washing the ship as it sails on choppy waters with islands and distant mountains in the background.
