For sale is this is fantastic small silver pepper designed by Charles Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft. The pepper is set with green stones which I believe to be chrysoprase. The pepper is fully hallmarked to base and lid and appears in Ashbee’s Modern English Silver Work, plate, 38. It can also be seen in a photograph of a collection of Ashbee silver published in The Artist, (Vol 33, Jan 1902, Page 17) – see images.
Condition is excellent.
See item A597 for an unmarked set of four, including a pair of peppers near identical to this one.
This pepper featured in my recent selling Exhibition in October and associated catalogue of the Guild’s silver
