An Audoux Minet Rope Lamp.

France, circa 1950.

A rope twist lamp of small scale, in the manner of Audoux Minet, with knotted centre and looping arm to one side.

Adrian Audoux and Frida Minet were a prolific French Modernist designer duo active in the 1940s and 50s. Their design philosophy centered on utilising new, accessible materials and technologies to reflect modern life's realities. They belonged to the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM), formed in 1929 by Modernist designers including Charlotte Perriand, Francis Jourdain, Louis Sognot, and Pierre Chareau. The UAM was established in opposition to the Société des Artistes Décorateurs (SAD), whose members, such as Follot, Dufrene, and Herbst, designed opulent pieces for Paris's wealthy elite, a practice that many UAM designers initially participated in before advocating for more accessible design.
